How to Replace the Battery in an Infiniti FX35

Car batteries carry a warranty for replacement until the life expectancy date is reached, which is printed on the top of the battery. If the battery in your Infiniti FX35 weakens, cracks or becomes heavily corroded, you must replace it to keep the car running and prevent damage to other parts under the hood.

Things You'll Need

  • Protective eyewear
  • Gloves
  • Baking soda
  • Small bowl
  • Toothbrush
  • Battery terminal cleaner
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Petroleum jelly
  • Open the Infiniti FX35's hood and let the car cool completely.

  • Place protective eyewear and gloves on to protect skin and eyes from corrosive fumes.

  • Mix equal parts baking soda and water in a small bowl. Brush it on the battery terminals with an old toothbrush where they mount to the posts. If there is any corrosion on the terminals, the solution will cause it to bubble up and release the hold between battery terminals and posts.

  • Scrub the top of the negative and positive battery terminals with a battery terminal brush.

  • Place an adjustable wrench on the negative battery terminal. Turn the wrench counterclockwise to loosen the terminal. Pull the terminal straight off. Repeat this process to remove the positive terminal.

  • Grasp the battery handle in the middle of the battery and lift it straight up and out of the car. Take note of the post direction of the faulty battery.

  • Grasp the battery handle on the new battery. Place it in the battery box, turning the posts in the same direction as the faulty battery.

  • Insert the pointed end of the battery terminal brush into the negative terminal opening. Turn the brush left and right to clean the inside of the terminal and remove any corrosion. Repeat this procedure to clean the positive terminal.

  • Dip a forefinger into a jar of petroleum jelly. Coat each battery post and each battery terminal with a thick layer. Petroleum jelly is an excellent conductor of electricity and prevents corrosion.

  • Place the positive terminal on the positive battery post. Tighten the bolt with an adjustable wrench. Repeat this process for the negative terminal.
