How to Remove Chevy Motor Mounts

Motor mounts secure the engine to the frame of a Chevy and help suppress the vibrations caused by the engine when it's running. Every Chevy uses different size bolts, so you will need the tool specific to the Chevy from which you are removing the motor mounts. You will need a little experience and knowledge of the Chevy that you are working on to properly replace the motor mounts.

Things You'll Need

  • Floor jack
  • 2 jack stands
  • Ratchet set
  • Wood block
  • Raise the front of the Chevy off the ground using the floor jack. Lower the front of the frame on two jack stands. Position the floor jack so that it's under the oil pan.

  • Locate the motor mounts on the four sides of the engine (left and right, front and rear). The motor mounts look like round rubber pieces between the engine and the frame of the Chevy.

  • Place the wood block on the lift plate on the jack and the oil pan and raise the jack up to the engine. This will disperse the weight of the engine and keep the oil pan from collapsing.

  • Loosen the bolts that are securing the motor mounts in place using the ratchet set. Once you have loosened all four motor mount bolts, raise the engine with the jack about two inches.

  • Remove the bolts from the motor mounts using the ratchet set. Pull the bolts from the motor mounts and pull the motor mounts from the fitting.
