How to Reset the Change Oil Light on a 2000 Lincoln LS

The Lincoln LS made its debut for the 2000 model year, and Lincoln continued to produce this luxury sedan until 2006. The 2000 Lincoln LS has an electronic oil-monitoring system, which displays on the information center the percentage of life your oil has remaining. Once that level reaches 5 percent or less, the CHANGE OIL SOON message will appear. When oil life reaches 0 percent, OIL CHANGE REQUIRED will be displayed. After you change the oil, you will need to reset the monitoring system (note that while the Reference is for the 2001 model, the reset process is the same).

  • Start your engine, or turn the key to the "Acc" mark to activate the electronics. Locate the information-center panel above the controls for your audio system. The panel has four buttons: FUEL, SETUP, RESET and STATUS. Press STATUS once to display OIL LIFE on the message center within your odometer cluster (next to the mileage indicator).

  • Press RESET once; this will bring up the message IF NEW OIL HOLD RESET. Press and hold RESET.

  • Release RESET after the message OIL LIFE RESET TO 100% appears.
