How to Change the Brakelights on a Pontiac Torrent

Produced from 2006 to 2009, the Pontiac Torrent is a crossover SUV available in front-wheel and all-wheel drive. Regular upkeep and maintenance can extend the life of your Torrent. Changing a burnt-out brakelight bulb is an easy piece of maintenance you can do yourself. Regardless of the year you drive, you'll find the directions are the same.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Owner's manual
  • Replacement brakelight bulb
  • Lift the liftgate.

  • Unscrew the two screws holding in the tail light assembly with a Phillips head screwdriver.

  • Pull the tail light assembly out sideways. For example, if you are on the driver's side, pull the assembly out to the left.

  • Twist the socket for the burned-out brakelight counter-clockwise and remove.

  • Pull the old bulb out of the socket.

  • Insert the new bulb into the socket.

  • Replace the socket back into the tail light assembly. Twist it clockwise until it is secure.

  • Reinstall the tail light assembly into the vehicle and secure it with the two screws.
