How to Replace the Microfilter on an Infiniti i30

The I30 was Infiniti's (Nissan's luxury division) revamped version of the Nissan Maxima. The I30 was sold from 1996 to 2001. Later models are equipped with an interior microfilter. This filter is commonly known as a cabin air filter. You need to replace this filter annually and sometimes biannually, depending on your climate. The I30's microfilter isn't difficult to access, but it is dangerously close to the dash airbag connection. Follow the proper safety procedures to prevent accidentally discharging the airbag.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Pliers
  • Turn off the engine and open the hood. Disconnect the negative battery cable (--) with the pliers. Wait 10 to 15 minutes before continuing. This will disarm the airbag system (the microfilter is very close to the airbag connection).

  • Open the glove box door. Remove all the items from your glove box; set them to the side. Remove the four Phillips screws along the top interior portion of the glove box compartment.

  • Access the area in the passenger side foot well, directly beneath the glove box. There are two Phillips screws. Remove these screws while supporting the glove box compartment with your hand (otherwise it will fall down abruptly).

  • Carefully lower the glove box compartment as far as possible. Squeeze the plastic tabs connecting the glove box to the yellow SRS connection (use a pair of pliers, if necessary). This will allow the glove box to lower completely and make the microfilter door visible (it's white).

  • Pull down the tab on the microfilter compartment door. Remove the door and set it to the side. Slide the microfilter out. Insert the replacement microfilter. Snap the white compartment door back on.

  • Raise the glove box enough to reattach the tabs connected to the yellow connection, and then fully raise the glove box door. Replace the two Phillips screws underneath it.

  • Replace the four Phillips screws inside the glove box compartment. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
