How to Reset the Oil Light on a 2007 VW Rabbit

When it's time to bring your Volkswagen Rabbit in for an oil change, a light on your odometer cluster will illuminate each time you turn the car on. This light will stay on while you are driving, even if you have the oil changed (unless you have the oil changed at a Volkswagen dealer, who will usually reset it for you). In this situation, you'll need to reset the service indicator to turn the oil light off. The indicator should not be reset until after the oil has been changed.

  • Sit down in your driver's seat and close the door (engine off, key removed from ignition).

  • Press and hold the button labeled "0.0" on the right side of your odometer cluster. While holding the button, insert the key and turn it to "On" (as far as you can turn without starting the engine).

  • Release the "0.0" button and immediately press and hold the "M" button on the left side of your odometer cluster. After a few seconds, the light will turn off.

  • Release the "M" button, turn the key off, and remove it from the ignition.
