Several late model Mazda vehicles come standard with fog lamps; on others, the feature is optional. Replacing your Mazda's fog lamps is not a difficult task; the bulbs are easily accessed underneath the front bumper, so removing the headlight assembly or other components is not necessary. The procedure to remove the fog lamps is the same on all Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 (first and second generation models) vehicles; however, the recommended replacement bulb is different.
Park on a flat surface and set the parking brake. Turn the ignition, headlight and fog lamp switch off.
If your vehicle is a 2003 to 2008 Mazda 6, turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction of the fog lamp you are replacing before shutting the engine off.
Access the area underneath the front bumper, directly beneath the fog lamp lens. Remove the four Phillips head screws from the plastic brush guard.
If your vehicle is a 2003 to 2008 Mazda 6, there are two additional screws to remove. These are right in front of the wheel.
Partially peel back the plastic brush guard (it's thin and fairly flexible) enough to reach your hand inside. Locate the fog lamp bulb and socket.
Depress the plastic tab on the bulb socket to disconnect the electrical harness; pull the harness straight down to detach it (it's okay to let it hang).
Twist the bulb socket counterclockwise to remove it from the lens, and then pull it straight out.
Attach the electrical harness to the replacement bulb connection (it helps to pull the harness down through the opening). Insert the replacement bulb into the rear of the lens; twist it clockwise.
Push the brush guard back in place. Replace the four Phillips screws.
