How to Remove a Subaru Oil Filter

Your Subaru requires an oil change at 3,000-mile intervals. The oil change should include a new oil filter. Pick up the correct filter when purchasing the oil. Do this by referencing your make and model through the catalog on hand where the filters are sold. Select your filter by whatever part number is recommended. You will have a choice of name brands and grade of protection. Consult your Subaru dealer to ensure you are picking up the right filter.

Things You'll Need

  • Oil filter wrench
  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Locate the oil filter underneath the vehicle. Depending on the Subaru model, you may be able to access the filter from underneath the hood.

  • Unscrew the oil filter with your oil filter wrench. Loosen the oil filter with your wrench and remove by hand.

  • Inspect the filter for any part numbers. Write down the part number as this will help in referencing the new filter.

  • Dispose of the filter by placing it in the waste oil pan. You can dispose of the oil filter with the old oil.
