How To Fix Door Seals on Trailblazer

The Chevy Trailblazer is a sports utility vehicle manufactured by General Motors' Chevrolet division. The rubber door seals on a Trailblazer edge the doors and door frames of the vehicle to help seal the interior when the doors are shut. You can fix the door seals if one or both of them become loose and no longer seal the car efficiently.

Things You'll Need

  • Silicone adhesive
  • Rag
  • Identify the area on the door seals that requires fixing. Close the door when the Trailblazer is parked and inspect the edges for gaps or light. When driving, listen carefully for the sound of air coming through the edges of the door. Note down the areas that need fixing.

  • Open the door and inspect the areas you noted. Typically, you will find that the door seals on the Trailblazer door or body have come loose from the metal and don't properly meet the other seal. Note the amount of fixing required, as this will guide your decision regarding how much silicone adhesive to purchase.

  • Buy silicone adhesive at your local hardware store. Wipe down the Trailblazer's door seals with a rag to remove dust and debris that may prevent the adhesive from working efficiently. Apply the adhesive along the inside edge of the door seals that have come loose. Also apply a few drops on the metal surface of the door.

  • Press the door seals back against the metal and apply pressure for 60 seconds. Gently release your hold on the door seals. The loose part of the seal should now be sticking against the Trailblazer's door or metal frame.

  • Wait for the silicone to cure and set. The drying time for the silicone adhesive is a minimum of 24 hours for one eighth of an inch of adhesive. If you use more adhesive, expect drying to take longer.
