How to Fix a Vacuum Leak in a Mustang

Fixing a vacuum leak in Ford Mustang is crucial to the performance of the car. However, a vacuum leak can come from a variety of sources. The least expensive issue would be if the leak were in one of the vacuum tubes, but which one? Otherwise there could be a leak in a gasket or crack in the manifold. This article will tell you how to diagnose the problem so it can be fixed.

Things You'll Need

  • Soap
  • Water
  • Carburetor cleaner
  • Get a rag and soak it in soapy water. Run the rag along the rubber hoses.

  • If any bubbles are created then you know there is a leak in the hose. Replace the hose. Your manual will tell you how to do this.

  • If the hoses are not the problem, the next step is to check the carburetor itself by spraying some carburetor cleaner on the base of the carburetor while the engine is on. If any gets inside then that is where your leak is. Your car making noises will indicate that the cleaner is getting in through a leak.

  • If this is the issue, you have to replace the gasket or head.
