The Infiniti J30 is a very sporty car with the luxury and handling that all car enthusiasts can appreciate. It is definitely a vehicle that you want to keep running in top shape. In order to do that, you need to maintain a regular pattern of maintenance on your car. Regularly check the fluids and systems of your Infiniti J30. One system in particular that you want to keep an eye on is the cooling system. If the vehicle gets too hot or the thermostat goes bad, it could create a lot of problems. Replacing the thermostat on your Infiniti J30 is a very easy and inexpensive fix compared to the alternatives.
Remove the fan blade from the front of the engine of your Infiniti J30 by unbolting it from the air induction pump with a metric socket wrench. Make sure to keep bolts in a safe place for easy retrieval. Remove air induction pump that sits behind the fan blade with the metric socket wrench. Loosen the bolts on the alternator pump and remove the alternator belt.
Locate the water pump on the engine of the Infiniti J30. It should be at the front of the engine on the top. Locate the radiator hose that runs from the radiator to the water pump. Place the drain pan under the radiator and loosen the radiator drain plug located at the bottom of the radiator. Remove the radiator cap at the top of the radiator, and allow coolant to run into the drain pan until the level is below the level of the water pump. Once the coolant level reaches the desired level, tighten the drain plug to stop the release of coolant. Unscrew the screw clamp around the radiator hose next to the water pump, and remove the hose from the neck of the water pump.
Unbolt the neck housing that is attached to the water pump and remove from the pump. Remove the thermostat that sits inside the neck housing. Use a piece of emery cloth to clean the surface of the neck housing and the face of the water pump from old gasket material and debris.
Place the gasket seal around the face of the neck housing, and secure the new thermostat to the housing. Run a bead of gasket seal around the face of the water pump, and secure the thermostat and neck housing to the water pump with bolts. Reattach the hose to the neck housing, and tighten the screw clamp around the neck housing.
Reattach the alternator belt and secure the alternator pump with bolts. Attach the air induction pump to the engine, and then reattach the fan blades to the pump with bolts. Add coolant to the radiator to bring levels back up to normal, and then put the radiator cap back on the radiator. Turn the engine on and allow to warm up to check for signs of overheating or leakage. Remove the drain pan and dispose of released coolant by taking it to the local recycling center.
