How to Change the Carbon Filter on a Peugeot 407

The Peugeot 407 is equipped with a carbon pollen filter that traps dust and small particles to prevent them from entering the passenger compartment. When the filter becomes dirty, the air flow in the ventilation system is restricted. Peugeot recommends replacing the carbon filter once per year or after every 15,000 miles driven. If the 407 is driven in heavy traffic or in dusty conditions, the filter will need to be replaced more frequently.

Things You'll Need

  • New carbon filter
  • Slide the front passenger seat as far back as it will go.

  • Remove the floor mat from the front passenger side.

  • Turn the two plastic clips on the panel below the glove compartment one quarter turn to the left. Pull the clips out of the panel.

  • Lift the panel out and set aside.

  • Unclip the handle on the panel cover behind the ash tray. Pull the panel cover away to expose the carbon filter.

  • Pull the old filter out of the compartment. Bend the filter slightly while removing to make sure it comes out all the way.

  • Slide the new filter into the filter compartment. Position the filter so the "air flow" arrow printed on the filter is pointing up.

  • Replace the panel cover. Press it into place until it snaps shut.

  • Replace the panel below the glove compartment. Insert the plastic clips. Turn them one quarter turn to the right to lock them in place.
