Winter Vs. All-Season Wiper Blades

Windshield wiper blades are not just one of a kind. Knowing the difference between them can be important in making sure you're operating your car in the safest manner possible.

Winter Wiper Blades

  • Winter wiper blades are specially built to withstand snow and ice. In colder conditions, regular blades can acquire a buildup of ice chips or frozen snow inside and around the blade. The result is often streaks on your windshield and decreased vision. Winter wiper blades have a rubber or vinyl wrapping around the blade, blocking ice and snow from entering between the metal arms of the wiper.

All-Season Wiper Blades

  • All-season wiper blades are made to clear water, snow and ice away from a windshield. They are usually built with multiple or reinforced rubber blades to help handle any and all elements. They do not, however, have the rubber or vinyl wrapping of winter wiper blades.

Choosing Wiper Blades

  • All-season wiper blades are usually less expensive and may be the right choice for someone on a limited budget. With proper maintenance of the vehicle and the blades, all-season wipers may be the best option. However, if you live in a region where heavy snow and ice are common, spending the extra money to equip your vehicle with winter blades means you'll have a safer ride.
