How to Raise the Seat in a Jeep

Jeep makes a number of vehicles, including the Wrangler, Commander, Liberty, Patriot and Grand Cherokee. Depending on the trim level of the model, it may have a manual seat or an electric seat. All Jeep vehicles with electric seats have a height adjustment feature. Many equipped with a manual seat can also be adjusted for height. The procedure to raise the seat height is the same in all Jeep vehicles.

Manual Seats

  • Look closely at the side of the driver's seat near the door. Some Jeeps have a lever running horizontally with the edge of the seat cushion to raise the seat height.

  • Grasp the lever firmly while sitting in the seat. Push the lever downward. The seat will raise approximately 2 inches.

  • Repeat the process. Each time you push the lever down, the seat height should rise. When the lever will no longer move downward, the seat has reached its maximum height.

  • Lift the lever up to lower the seat height if it is too high.

Electric Seats

  • Crank the Jeep's engine. The ignition must be "On" for you to adjust the seat.

  • Examine the electric seat controls on the side of the driver's seat. You'll see two plastic knobs: one on the bottom and one behind it.

  • Grasp the bottom plastic knob. Push it upward and hold it in place. The seat will slowly rise.

  • Release the knob when the ideal seat height is reached. If you decide you want to lower the seat height, push the knob down.
