How to Remove a Chevy 4X4 Shifter

The shifter used to engage the four-wheel drive on your Chevy is located on the floorboard between the driver and passenger's seat. The shifter allows you to go from two-wheel to four-wheel drive and back again. If you ever need to perform maintenance on the transmission, you will have to remove the 4x4 shifter from the Chevy before you can service the vehicle. Fortunately, the process is not difficult and requires just basic hand tools.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Wrench set
  • Remove the shifter boot bezel that holds the rubber shifter boot to the floor of the Chevy 4x4 by removing the screws that secure it with a screwdriver.
