How to Change a Chrysler PT Cruiser Brake Light Bulb

Changing most brake light bulbs requires removal of an access panel from the rear cargo compartment. The Chrysler PT Cruiser's brake light bulbs are a bit different. There is no access panel in the cargo compartment, so the lens assembly must be pulled out to access the bulbs. Fortunately, this is a simple task because the PT Cruiser's lens assembly is held in place with only a simple screw. Be sure to install the correct type of bulb, to prevent compatibility issues.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Bulb number 3157
  • Remove the single screw from the brake light assembly. The screw is located in the bottom-inside corner of the assembly.

  • Gently pull the brake light assembly out of its mount. On the rear you'll find the brake light bulb socket and the wiring connection. Squeeze the tab on the wiring connector to release it from the bulb socket. Turn the socket counterclockwise; pull the bulb out.

  • Insert the replacement bulb into the port. Turn it clockwise to tighten it. Attach the wiring connector to the replacement bulb. Carefully push the brake light assembly into its mount. Re-insert the screw and tighten it to secure the assembly.
