How to Maintain Power Steering Fluid Levels in a Chrysler Town & Country

The Chrysler Town & Country is a popular mini-van model, and led mini-vans in many features like the driver's side sliding door. While some earlier years of the Town & Country from the 1990s have had reliability issues, most of these problems are associated with the automatic transmission, so power steering maintenance for all Town & Country vehicles remains essentially the same.

Things You'll Need

  • Chrysler power steering fluid
  • Check your Chrysler Town & Country power steering fluid levels every 22,500 miles or sooner if you notice any problems with your steering system or see red fluid leaking under your car.

  • Park your Town & Country on a level surface and turn off the engine before checking power-steering fluid levels. Checking any fluid level on an incline can artificially change the fluid level and result in a misreading of fluid levels.

  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir in the labeled engine department. Remove the cap of the reservoir to check the fluid level, which should be above the low level mark but not exceed the maximum level.

  • Add Chrysler power steering fluid as necessary. If you are adding fluid to the power steering fluid reservoir on a regular basis, check to make sure there are no leaks in the hoses and that clamps are properly affixed to avoid fluid leaks.

  • Check your fluid reservoir and the hoses and connectors regularly to make sure that they are in tact and free of deposits. Dirty, corroded or otherwise worn power steering components can result in steering problems and should be cleaned or replaced immediately.
