What Oil Should I Use for a 2000 Jaguar XJ8?

In 2000, Jaguar offered five versions of the XJ, including the XJ8L, Vanden Plas, Vanden Plas Supercharged, XJR and XJ8. The XJ8 featured a 4.0-liter V-8 that produced 290 horsepower. Jaguar recommended a range of oil weights that it found acceptable in most driving conditions. Before refilling the oil, read the VIN to find out if your XJ8 has the high-oil-capacity engine.

Oil Type and Capacity

  • In all temperatures, Jaguar says that 5W-30, 0W-30, 0W-40 or 5W-40 engine oil is acceptable. The oil capacity depends on the VIN code, as Jaguar increased the XJ8's capacity mid-year. Up to VIN code F00463, the engine holds 6.3 quarts of oil. From VIN code F00464 and up, the engine holds 7.4 quarts of oil.
