How to Use a Valve Stem 4 in 1 Tool

Valve stem 4-in-1 tools consist of four arms. Each arm contains a specific tool designed to repair the components of a valve stem. Knowing which tool to use to fix a problem with a valve stem will reduce the headaches associated with removing and replacing a valve stem or contending with damaged valve stem threads. Improper use of the tool can result in valve stem damage or a lost valve core.

Things You'll Need

  • Replacement valve Core
  • Air Compressor

Remove Valve Stem Core

  • Twist the valve stem cap counterclockwise to remove it from the valve stem.

  • Clear dirt and debris from inside the valve stem with the pointed arm of a 4-in-1 tool.

  • Insert the arm of the 4-in-1 tool containing a notched round shaft into the valve stem. Turn the 4-in-1 tool until the end of the tool slides over the valve core.

  • Turn the tool counterclockwise. Maintain pressure on the tool to keep the valve core stable as air flows from the valve stem. Allow all air to exit the tire. Pull the valve core from the valve stem.

Rethread Internal Valve Stem Threads

  • Slide the arm of the 4-in-1 tool containing visible threads into the end of the valve stem.

  • Turn the tool clockwise until the flange located above the exposed threads sits tight to the top of the valve stem.

  • Spin the tool counterclockwise to remove it from the valve stem.

Install Replacement Valve Core

  • Set a replacement valve core into the rethreaded valve stem. Turn the valve core clockwise with the notched round shaft arm of the 4-in-1 tool.

  • Align the arm of the 4-in-1 tool with internal threads on the end of the valve stem.

  • Turn the tool clockwise to clean the valve cap threads. Spin the tool counterclockwise to remove it from the valve stem.

  • Fill the tire to the correct pressure with an air compressor.

  • Install the vale cap on the valve cover.
