How to Change the Engine Air Filter in a 2008 Nissan Rogue

The 2008 Rugoe was Nissan's first entry into the already booming crossover SUV market. The Rogue lived up to its name with its edgier styling that shared many cues with its bigger brother, the Murano. Beauty, as they say, is more than skin deep, and so it was with the Rogue. The standard equipment QR25DE inline-four cylinder engine provided more "Oomph" than the other contenders, making the Rogue as thrilling to drive as it was to look at. You can keep the thrill alive by replacing the engine's air filter every 20,000 miles.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Raise the hood and find the airbox on the driver-side firewall along the rear of the engine compartment. The airbox can be identified by its rectangular air filter cover.

  • Release the retaining latches on both sides of the air filter cover, using the tip of a flat-head screwdriver. Pull the cover off of the airbox, then pull out the air filter housing. Push the air filter element out of housing. Place a new filter element into the air filter housing, facing the pleated paper portion of the element inward.

  • Hold the end of the air filter housing, opposite of the grooved portion on the bottom of the housing. Slide the air filter housing into the airbox, then reinstall the airbox cover. Close the hood.
