How to Convert Liters Into Gallons for Petrol Prices

In the United States, petrol, or gasoline, is measured in U.S. gallons. However, other countries may use the British gallon or the liter. If you are traveling abroad and you see gas stations with the price measured in liters, you will need to accurately convert the liters to gallons to be able to find out how the price compares to American prices. To do so, you need to know whether you are converting to American or British gallons.

Things You'll Need

  • Calculator
  • Divide the number of liters by 3.785411784 liters per U.S. gallon to convert to U.S. gallons. For example, if you had 11 liters, you would divide 11 liters by 3.785411784 liters per U.S. gallon to get 2.91 U.S. gallons.

  • Divide the number of liters by 4.404884 liters per British gallon to convert to British gallons. For example, if you had 11 liters, you would divide 11 liters by 4.404884 liters per British gallon to get 2.497228077 British gallons.
