Im About To Brake - Superstreet Magazine

What would our brake issue be without a big-brake install? And when we say big, we really mean huge. Kind of like how bad means good and phat means pretty hot and tempting.

Although our 240SX had been stopping with stock S14 Silvia K brakes for quite some time, we really needed to think ahead to handle the future power upgrades we're planning. We decided to go with Brembo; the company is well-known for designing brake systems for trucks, motorcycles, and CART, NASCAR, and F1 cars-which really aren't our interest, but it proves these guys know their ish.

The Gran Turismo brake system takes care of our stopping woes without breaking a sweat. The four-piston calipers give a stronger clamping force, and the oversized rotors provide a larger surface area for the calipers to grab. Since the S14 and 300ZX twin-turbo brakes are the same size and bolt on to (five-lug) 240SXs without any modifications, we went with the Gran Turismo kit that was originally designed for the 300ZX. Unless you are jinxed like we are, install is a breeze and takes around an hour to complete. If it takes you any longer than that, well, we don't know what to tell ya. Except maybe you should have someone else do it for you.

The Low DownMsrp: $2,995Pros: Very simple to install. Bigger and badder than Jonny's hairCons: Rear-brake kit for the 300ZX does not allow use of the emergency brake on the 240SXInstall Difficulty: BeginnerVerdict: Look dope and stop hard enough to pop your eyeballs out of your head
