Powertrax No-Slip Traction System

We are always talking about using headers and superchargers to make more power, but it really doesn’t matter how much power you put out if you can’t get it to the ground. This traction—or lack thereof—situation reared its ugly head on our S-Runner after we installed TRD’s headers, an after-cat exhaust, and a supercharger. The truck puts out more power than the single wheel can hold and one-wheel burnouts are geeky.

We knew we had to do something so we got on the horn, contacted Powertrax, and told them our dilemma. After we told them what year, make, and model we had, they told us they had just what we needed in their No-Slip Traction System. For our application the unit is a direct replacement for the stock spider gears and can be installed by the do-it-yourselfer with basic handtools and a vice.

The Powertrax No-Slip Traction System is based on a locker design with improvements to get rid of the snap, crackle, and pop noise and jerky characteristics that lockers inherently have. (If you have driven a truck with a locker you know what we mean.) To eliminate the noise (ratcheting of the teeth), Powertrax came up with a Synchronization Ring, which fits inside the unit and holds the teeth apart while turning. When you have a locker in your truck the only time it will disengage is when you are turning. This allows the outside tire to turn faster than the inside, which is going pinion speed. The Powertrax No-Slip Traction System will provide all the power to the wheels when engaged, allowing for two big strips of smoky goodness. All you will need for the install are some standard garage tools, a lift or jack, a drain pan, gear oil, and some common sense.
