Auto Insurance Claims: Rear ended, cats and dogs, raining cats and dogs

Question
Hi so I was driving from school today and I stopped at a light and someone hit me from the back it was more of a bump but I was in the middle of the road and paniced so instead of like getting of the car I kept driving, it was raining cats and dogs which made getting the cara license number very hard. When I finally stopped and looked at my car, they indeed did hit me and there are two little less then a penny sized marks, it's not a big deal but I don't think they should get away with doing this, so I emailed the staff of my school to look for that person(I'm pretty sure they go to my school). I'm just wondering what is the most I can get out of the situation and should I call my insurance company or something?

Answer
You should make a police report and tell them what happened. You'll have to make a statement and they can run the license plate to find out who hit you. As for your insurance, you'll be responsible for paying your deductible, so you have to decide if it is worth filing the claim based on the cost to repair your car. Get an estimate from a body shop you trust and decide from there.
