Auto Insurance Claims: Broken arm exiting own vehicle..., medical payments coverage, personal injury protection

Question
Hi there.  I have GEICO liability only coverage (California).  I got out of my car rather quickly and stepped on a round rock, falling hard to the ground and breaking my arm.  I have no health insurance.  Someone suggested that GEICO might cover this.  Could this be true?  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Michelle,

It does not appear that California has Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage available. It is possible that your policy may contain Medical Payments Coverage (MedPay)that may be able to be used. You would have to either look at the Declarations page of your police to see if you have MedPay coverage or call Geico and ask them. If you do have the coverage you would then need to ask if it would provide coverage for your situation. It may only provide coverage for injuries sustained in a collision.

I hope this helps
