Auto Insurance Claims: payout from insurance company, leinholder, insurance adjuster

Question
I am waiting for a offer to repair my truck.  I was backed into in a parking lot.  I was not in the vehicle.  I have not decided where I want to have the vehicle repaired.  Can I request a check for the settlement amount and decide later where to get the truck fixed?  This would possibly put some money in my pocket.  The insurance adjuster mentioned providing a rental while my truck is in the shop but I do not NEED a rental.  I would rather find a better deal on the repair and keep some of the money from the insurance, possibly to do other repairs not related to the accident.

Answer
Hi Chris,

You are under no obligation to have the vehicle repaired. You can simply tell them that you will select a shop on your own when you have the time and request that they issue the check to you. This willnot be a problem unless you have a loanb on the car. Then they would have to make the check payable to you and your leinholder.

I hope this helps
