Auto Insurance Claims: Rental car collision, third party insurance, rental car company

Question
My wife's car was rear ended 2 weeks back.  Luckily, the person who hit her had insurance and we were able to file a third party claim.  We also got a rental car paid by the third party insurance. We declined optional collision coverage.  However, this evening, when I pulled out my corporate parking structure, it was dark and my rear window was foggy, I swiped the side of rental car to the pole causing a little damage.

What would be the best way to resolve this collision with little impact on our pocket books?  Come clean rental car company or get the car fixed and return as though nothing happened?  I would like to do the right thing.

Thanks
Ron

Answer
Hi Ron,

If the damage is extremely minor, just have it repairs as soon as possible and pay for it out of pocket. If the damage is more severe then you will have to report the damage to the rental car company and make a claim on your own collision coverage and you would have to pay your deductible.

I hope this helps
