Auto Insurance Claims: 2nd Estimate???, diminished value, insurance company

Question
I was hit in my Suburban and they other driver did $16,000. worth of damage to my car. I believe at 75% they (the insurance company) would total it out - being $18,000.   I feel the dealership is just going UNDER the total-out cost to make some money off the insurance.  Do you think this is true?  Should I get another estimate from the shop down the street?  I don't want the car back, I don't think it will ever be the same or as safe as before. What is your opinion?

Answer
Hi Nicole,

The vehicle should likely be totaled. In addition to the cost of repairs the insurance company should also take into consideration the cost of providing you with a rental car during the repairs, the possibility of additional damage being found during the course of repair and the diminished value of the vehicle. Thats right, you are entitled to be paid for the lost value of the vehicle in addition to the cost of repairs. You should contact www.collisionclaims.com . They can help you assess the diminished value as well as provide the documentation to try to convice the insurance company to total your vehicle.

I hope this helps
