Auto Insurance Claims: Auto or Motorcycle?, Liability or Collision

Question
My son was hauling two strapped motorcycles inside an enclosed trailer with his pick up.  During transport, the motorcycles came unstrapped and fell on top of each other damaging them both.  One was his and one was his friends.  Would this be a claim under his auto policy?  He has full coverage for auto as well as motorcycle in Texas.  Your assistance is appreciated.

Answer
Short answer, he would have to have file it under the motorcycle policy.

Long answer:

One cannot be liable to themselves, and since the motorcycles were not strapped down properly, that means your son was negligent in securing his load, so his auto liability policy will not cover that.  Since he has full coverage on the motorcycles, then he has a contract that says if they are damaged, the insurance company will pay for it (less his deductible).

I hope this helps!
