Auto Insurance Claims: Should I be Concern?, defence attorney, insurance company

Question
Back in 2003, I got into a light fender bender due to weather.  My car slid a bit on ice and hit a truck.  When the police arrived, it was determined by me and the other driver that we didn’t need medical attention.  About 2 hours later, my insurance informed me the other driver had gone to the hospital and will make a claim.  My insurance company responded back they would need the driver to also see their own physician to validate the injuries.  The driver never responded.  In early 2006, my insurance company closed the case due to claimant not responding to any of the insurance company’s inquires.  Now, after over 3 years, the claimant filed a claim.  Should I be worry?  Should I hired a lawyer incase they tried to sue me?  Can my insurance company still validate her “injuries” years after the fact?

Answer
Hi Tyler,

You do not have to worry. Just let your insurance company handle everything. Be sure to keep your insurance company informed of any information you receive. If you receive suit papers be sure to let your insurance company know. Also, you do not need to get a lawyer. If you are sued, your insurance company will provide you with a defence attorney. That is part of the coverage of your policy.

I hope this helps
