Auto Insurance Claims: Auto insurance, hi art, own insurance

Question
My daughter is 21, lives at home, and has been on my car insurance since age 16.  My renewal policy states because we have had no accidents or claims in the last 5 years, we have earned our first accident forgiveness, and disappearing collision deductible, which reduces our collision deductible by $150.00 and $50.00 each year after.

Is there any reason I should take her off my policy, and have her obtain her own insurance?

I checked GEICO and their rate is $100.00 more for a six month policy, without the accident forgiveness, and disappearing deductible.

Answer
Hi Art,

You should leave things as they are. Because she lives in your household, Allstate would still require that she be listed on your policy as well and the policy would be rated accordingly.  This is due to the fact that she lives in your house and technically has access to your vehicles. However, in some states you can specifically exclude a driver from coverage. You should ask your agent if that is possible. But if there is ever any reason that your daughter may drive one of your vehicles, even in an emergency, there will be no coverage.

I hope this helps
