Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Jeep Cherokee Blower Resister, negative battery cable, damper rod

Question
How hard is it to replace a 2005 Jeep Cherokee Blower Resister?

Answer
Hi Doris,

Actually, it's pretty easy. Before any work, it's always a good idea to disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.

1. First thing, remove the glove box by opening it -- you'll have to separate the damper rod on the right side by sliding the rod towards the rear. Carefully press down on the glovebox, and guide it past the stops on either side (sometimes takes a bit of effort). Rotate it down to release the hinges, and it should pull away.

2. Hard part is done! The connector should be right in front of you (either a 4,5 or 6 pin straight connector) -- disconnect it.

3. Remove the two mounting screws, probably philips head or 7mm, and pull it free from the A/C case. Be careful if the system was just on, the opposite side can get HOT!

Replace it with a new one, and reverse the steps above. Note: always a good idea to shine a light in there, and possibly an angled mirror, to check for any strange debris.

Good Luck!
