hello and thank you in advance for any help. my air worked fine on tuesday (very cold, great blowing) then when i went out on wednesday it wouldn't work. when you turn the air on, it squeals. it still blows fine but the air is not cold. since the car is not worth much (over 160,000 miles) i really don't want to spend much on it. any suggestions? i have never had any problems with the air before and i am the only owner.

Does the A/C compressor squeel all the time when it is engaged ?. no...it only squeals for about 1/2 a minute then stops
Are you getting cold air from the vents when the A/C is ON ?. no...air is warm...feels like outside air

AnswerOK, The first thing that needs to be done is to be sure that the fan belt is TIGHT so as to properly engage and maintain operation of the A/C compressor.
If the A/C compressor is NOT operating when you turn ON the A/C this could be due to an internal leak of refrigerant (freon) due to a fault of one of the A/C components.
You will need to get a professional diagnosis from a reliable reputable facility and let me know what their diagnosis is.
