Auto body repair & detailing: clear coats, old mustang, sand base

I helped my kids with body work and painting an old mustang
with base/clear base coat went on some what ok. i waited till the next weekend to do the clear coat. I scuffed and cleaned the base coat,then I put on 2 coats of clear and got called back to work,(Murffy's law) after a few days we sanded down some orange peel and dust spots, the scuffed it up again and then put a few more clear coats. we wet sanded again and buffed out. we then saw some spots that I first looked like we burned thru to paint , but it looks like it went through to the first clear coat. It's shaded and blocthy and doesn't,' seem to want to buff out. Can I fix it or do I have to re-sand and get more clear paint and spray and re wet sand and buff again

Usually you do not sand base and 2 coat of clear are sufficient.More is not necessarily better.If you sand base you should recoat to hide scratches and the clear should be applied within a couple hours of applying base.It sounds like you need to start over.Sorry.
