Auto body repair & detailing: Bondo over lead, acid wash, bondo

Question
I have 1973 mg that I'm restoring it has factory leaded seams was inquiring as what would best seal lead to prevent gassing and lifting of paint latter on. PS this is not home work. Thank you.

Answer
why do you want to bondo over lead? If anything, sand or file the lead seam to a better contour. Factory lead is always over applied, and heaped on. Contouring lead with a body file is the way to go. Finish sand lightly with 180 on a DA sander, and prime. Refrain from using a metal prep or acid wash primer on the lead seam, it may react with the lead. Talk to your local paint jobber as far as compatable primers for lead, I have no idea what paint system you are using. Bill
