Auto body repair & detailing: door limiter, honda accord coupe, rubber blocks

Question
The door strap bracket on my '92 Honda Accord coupe broke loose from the door jamb. I think this is pretty common on Hondas, especially the heavy coupe doors. The strap fits into detents to hold the door in the open position when the car is on a grade. I noticed the strap cannot be pulled out by hand(from the detent position), so I removed the door limiter from the door. The detent rollers are sprung by rubber blocks. I don't know if the rubber hardened with age, or if they are supposed to be that hard to operate.

I don't want to put a new one in if my limiter is not bad, and I'm afraid if I reweld the bracket without loosening up the limiter, the weld may break loose again. I thought about shaving a little off the length of the rubber blocks to loosen the mechanism up a bit.

Any thoughts?

Answer
You need to replace the door limiter catch. If you weld another bracket on it will only rip it from your A piller. they do harden and wear out.Every time you change your motor oil you should lub all your latch.catches and and door limiters. they will last a liftime if you do.
  Hope this helps you
