Auto body repair & detailing: Finishing off the clear coat and blending, rear quarter panel, grit paper

Question
I recently repaired a scratch on the rear quarter panel of a '98 Sebring.  The paint matched perfect, the sanding and primer went well as did  the clear coat.  My question, after removing the masking tape, I have a ridge of where the new paint and clear coat was put on.  How do I get rid of this ridge and blend it to the undamaged paint area.  I was told to wet sand with a 2000 grit paper and then to use a polishing compound.  Will this bring out the gloss and get rid of the ridge without harming the finish?
Thank you.

Answer
If you just masked off a square in the middle of the quarter panel and sprayed the paint in the center of it you will never rid yourself of that ridge. Although you can cut it down some by water sanding with 1500 grit then 2000 grit and then buffing to a shine. You should of blended the clear over the whole quarter panel.
