Auto body repair & detailing: Mirror installation, mirror installation, ford taurus

Question
I have a 98 ford taurus.  I'm trying to replace the driver side mirror.  Do I need to take the whole door panel off? And if so, how in the world do I get it off?

Answer
Hello Bobby,
We have a 1999 Ford Taurus and believe it or not, we have not done any work on it.  Remove the cover for the mirror on the inside by pulling, it is on with clips.  If you cannot get your fingers under enough to pull it off, use a straight screw driver to pry it off.  You will see the bolts or nuts inside, most likely  10mm.  If you have power mirrors, you will have to unplug it.  Looking at the new mirror will help.  If you cannot see where the power is connected, it is probably under the trim panel.  If you have to take this panel off,  look carefully for screws on the panel, in the door handle and arm rest, etc. Remove all of these.  The rest of the trim is on with clips, start at the bottom and pull out.  Use a screw driver if you don't have enough room.  Have a drag light or flashlight handy.
Thank you,
Mike and Lisa
