Auto Glass: 96 camry driver window issues(s), salvage yard, wiring connections

Question
1996 Camry with 180k miles. Driver's door window stopped working in the down position. Pulled door panel and applied power. Window went up or down no problems. Then, all windows stopped working. Then drivers door speaker stopped working. Yesterday, the light on the console "power" switch came on and then all windows started working again (probably coincidence?). I'm thinking the wiring where it runs into the door? thanks! [I used your answer for the rear window relay replacement on a 91 4runner. worked great!!! thanks!]

Answer
Hello Douglas,

I would say that you have already figured it out.  Now the question is "how to make the repair?"

You can pull the rubber boot that protects the wiring between the door and the body to repair the existing wires or even splice in some new wires.  It can be a little awkward working in such a tight space.  If you aren't already familiar with "shrink tubing", I recommend you investigate using that to seal your wiring connections.

The other alternative involves replacing a complete section of the wiring harness.  I am not certain if the wiring harness that feeds the driver door has a connection close by.  Talk with your local salvage yard.  It might be a lot simpler to put in the wiring harness section for the door if there is a connector in the kick panel area.

Good Luck,
