Automotive Plastics: Rear view Mirror - button glued into mirror assembly, rear view mirror, glue

Question
The mirror fell off of the window.  The metal "button" that needs to be treated and re-glued to the windshield is stuck within the RV Mirror assembly.  I believe it is due to glue from the original placement.  Do you have a suggestion on how I can free the button from the assembly?

Answer
Hi Dave. Most rear view mirrors attached to windshields do not use any glues in the button assy.
However, 80°C are enough to weaken any cyanoacrylate or epoxy union. you can give it a try with an air heat gun and a small round tip. This, provided the mirror appendage is metal. If not think of buying a new mirror. If you manage to separate the pieces, I would suggest "Lockquick" from loctite to ensure a proper and strong glass-metal interface when reinstalling. Thanks
