Auto Parts: Cutlass supreme tranny, olds cutlass supreme, oldsmobile cutlass

Question
Hi,

I recently purchased an '93 Olds cutlass supreme SL (3.4l engine, shifter reads P R N D 3 2 1. I also have a '93 Chevy Corsica, 3.1ll engine, shifter reads P R N @ D 2 1. @ means overdrive drive, I guess). The transmission is shot on the Olds, and I would like to know if I can put a transmission in it from another model, and if I could use the good tranny from the corsica in the Olds. Any help you could give me would be really helpfull.

Thanks.
Matthew

Answer
Hi Matthew,

Unfortunately, the two units are not interchangeable. There is a bell-housing difference between the 3.1L and the 3.4L not to mention that the case-to-frame mounts would be different also.

Here is the interchange for the transmission you are trying to replace in the Oldsmobile:
CUTLASS    93 A.T.; 4T60E, 6-207 (3.4L)
GRAND PRIX 93 A.T.; 4T60E, 6-207 (3.4L)
LUMINA CAR 93 A.T.; 4T60E, 6-207 (3.4L)

What that means is that the ONLY transmission that will be a direct-fit for yours will be from either a Cutlass, Grand Prix or Lumina, 1993 ONLY and the vehicle must be equipped with the 4T60E and a 3.4L engine. In the industry we call that a 'tight' interchange because it is a one-year-only part.

Here is the direct interchange for the transmission equipped in your Corsica:
BERETTA 90-93 A.T.; 6-191 (3.1L)
CORSICA 90-93 A.T.; 6-191 (3.1L)
TEMPEST 90-91 A.T.; 6-191 (3.1L)

Thanks for the question, I hope this information is helpful to you.
