QuestionI have a mercury cougar 2001 model that has been having alarm and antitheft system issues the past few days. A few things seem related to the problem:
When use the keyless remote to lock the car, I get two chirps, when I used to get only one when everything was working properly.
When I use the key to open the car after using the remote to lock it, it sets off the alarm. This did not happen until recently and the manual also says that opening the car with a key will disable the alarm.
Once I opened the car with the key, and the alarm goes off, I press the unlock button on the remote to turn off the alarm. If at this point I try to start the car, it will not start. I have to press the unlock button on the remote again to be able to start the car.
AnswerI'd take it to the car alarm shop locally for an
evaluation. Could be a simple fix, but you'd
need some qualified eyes on this to determine
if it's a simple fix, or if it's more.
