Car Alarms: Extra security something, buick lesaber, word security

Question
QUESTION: We just bought a used 2002 Buick LeSaber.  The security system works as far as lights, horn, etc.. but the Security light on the dash does not come on.  I think it is because there is an additional security device on the car.

Below the bottom of the dash, about left knee level and just to the left of the steering wheel is what seems to be a security device. It is a flat black insert that is like a key with a CrabLike end on it that plugs into a small socket.  If I remove this device the lights all work but the engine does not start.  Put it back in and everything works again.

It also has a small red led below it.  Any idea what this is?

Thanks,

J

ANSWER: Yes it is an add on device called Micro Lock.
Just and extra layer of security. It''s a starter kill system,
which is redundent in ths car because it has 2 security systems
from the factory already, but in any event, it was added
after the purchase, probably prior to the last owner selling
it, and will not do harm.

If you want that little extra security,
pull the "key" when leaving the car and it
can't start, not even usuing the right ignition key until
you replace the key in the slot underneith the dash.

Enjoy!

QUESTION: Thank you so much for the reply.  My concern since I only got the one key with it if that one somehow gets removed/broken/etc.. the car won't start and I don't even know who to take care of the problem.

1.  Do you know where to get more keys/fob's or where to get the information to take it of the car.

2.  Would the installation of this item have caused the security light on the console (an area on the dash that says security and should light up when the door is open and flash until the security is enabled).  This is not working horn, lights, etc work on activation and at startup the lamp behind the word security comes on so it is not the lamp.

Any help you can give to these two questions will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
You'd need to replace the system. There are no duplicate keys
you can purchase on these. They are produced in series, and
do not offer replacement code keys.

No. If installed properly, this would not cause the vehicles
cluster lights to come on. It is independent of the "security system"
that comes from the factory, and this "chip key" system will
only affect the starter. Nothing else.

Good luck with it.
