Car Alarms: factory car alarm, alarmtek, honda service

Question
QUESTION: We have a 1998 Honda Accord with a factory anti-theft system. The remote recently was lost and this morning we awoke to the alarm going off intermittently with no obvious cause. We can't find the valet/override switch and have no other remote. For now we have resorted to leaving the car unlocked, but this is not an ideal solution. Any other suggestions?

ANSWER: Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take, to help you to fix this
situation you're in quickly.

QUESTION: Its not an aftermarket alarm. It is flashing headlights, horn honking and a flashing light on dash (radio) to be exact. We tried looking for a button under the dash to reset and could not locate it.

Answer
Ok there is no overide button or switch
on the factory alarm unfortunately.

The Honda Accord's factory alarm arms
and disarms with the door locks on the
EX models.

The LX models arm only with the factory
transmitter. So if this is your issue,
then you will need to get another to solve
this one.

Contact your local Honda service/parts department
for pricing and programming.

I hope this helped.
