Ford Repair: Ford Transmissions is mess up, ford transmissions, salvage yard

I do have a ford Explorer 1997........5.0L....V-8.......The transmission on my car is bad.......At first it wouldnt go in reverse or back-up..........Now it does not go forward at all.........Now I want to have the entire transmission change............What do I need to ask for or what do my car need???  I would really appreciate your help .........Thanks in advance

As you did not state, I have to assume that your transmission is an automatic. Your transmission needs to be replaced. I would go to a reputable salvage yard and get one for your vehicle there. If you replace it with the exact same transmission, you will not need any other parts except for a torque converter. You can also opt to have a rebuilt transmission placed in your car. If you get one from your a reputable salvage yard, you will save yourself at least 300 to 400 dollars. If you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
