Car Alarms: 1996 Ford Ranger Car Alarm Problem, ford ranger, green purple

Question
QUESTION: My 1996 Ranger's factory alarm system will go off without any reason. This has happened twice in the last week. I no longer have the remote so I have to unlock the driver's door to get the alarm to disarm. What is causing this problem? What is a solution?

ANSWER: I need to detemine what the alarm you are dealing with
is.

Headlights and horn honking or,
Siren and parking lights flashing?

Let me know.

QUESTION: I'm not sure exactly which lights are flashing but the horn is honking. There is not a siren.

Answer
Ok, Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
green/purple located in the drivers
door harness in the drivers kick
panel area. Remove the plastic
covering up the wire packs to access.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.

Have a good day.
