Question
This is the factory security system and the alarm we are getting is
Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?

My son has his firsy car, the Buick mentioned in the subject. Recently the security alarm started activating for no reason. This always occurs after dark regardless of temperature or weather conditions. It is easily reset by pressing the unlock button on the remote then pressing the lock button. No predictability on when it will happen. The only two things I can associate the problem starting with is a battery change and a broken rear vent glass during a break in to steal a half tank of gas, (alarm wasn't active when window was broken). These two happened within a week if each other. Any ideas

Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Many veriables on this vehicle &
I Require a bit more imput please.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take, to help you to fix this
situation you're in quickly.

Answer
Not too intermittent then. My best idea here is
to have GM do a diagnostic on the system to
verify any trigger point problems etc...
The idea here is that if the OEM system is
about to fail, they may be able to make
a code correction so that it is reset.
Then if the issue arises again, we can then look into
other aspects, like totally disabling it.

See what happens.
