Car Alarms: Cranks, but wont turn over., viper alarm system, bmw 3 series

Question
Hey,

I have a question that is really puzzling me.  I have a 1994 325is, my engine had blown 4 weeks ago, and then two days ago, I put in a new engine in my driveway.  Everything is good on the engine, but the car won't start.  The car will crank, but no power is going to the fuel pump (If I jump the relay, the fuel pump will become activated) And there is no spark in my ignition coils/spark plugs.

This sounds like some type of immobilizer problem; I currently have a Viper alarm system, would a dead battery cause the viper alarm system to go completely out of wack?  I really need to know soon since I need my car back on the road and can't afford to bring my car to the shop to have it diagnosed since I do all the mechanical work myself.

Thank you very much.

Answer
According to my tech sheets the 1994 BMW 3 series did not include a factory immobilizer nor does it list a factory alarm.

I would recommend taking a look at that Viper system, just to eliminate it as the possible culprit.  Pop down the dash on the driver's side and take a look at the ignition wiring harness, following this back should reveal some inline fuse holders that supply your alarm.  Pulling these fuses should disable the security system allowing you to troubleshoot your problem further.

If there were ignition and fuel pump cut off relays installed you should remove the relays and restore the factory wiring to ensure the alarm is not where your problems are coming from.
