Car Alarms: disarming toyota alarm, butt connector, toyota corolla

Question
my  1997 toyota corolla has an after market alarm system installed by the dealer (their system) that is giving us problems..can we uninstall it or does an auto mechanic have to do it? there are 2 buttons on the remote and seems to be a simple system..can we simply unhook something? I know thats not much to go on but any advice would be apreciated...

Answer
Sure you can do this. Remove the under panel
covering the steering column. Then locate
the brain box of the alarm. On it, there will
be a power lead and an ignition wire,
(usually red for constant power/yellow for ignition power)
and disconect them from they're power sources.

The alarm is now powered down.
If the starter kill relay in installed,
and the car will not start, locate the relay
inline on the starter wire, cut it out, and
reconnect the starter wire ends to each other
with a butt connector.

Tape off any exposed wire you left, and
put the under panely back on.

The alarm is now disabled completely, including
door lock and unlock if installed.

Good luck with it.
