Car Alarms: car alarm / dead battery ?, fcc id number, dash area

Question
Thanks for your quick reply! I don't know if the remote is from Toyota originally or not; it certainly doesn't say Toyota anywhere. The FCC # is J5523518T (or maybe T1, hard to read.) It's a keyless entry fob, black, with one main button  and a smaller oval button that only turns on the little light (doesn't seem to do anything else.) Any help you can give is appreciated!

Forgive the dumb question, but does a car alarm run off the car's battery? We have a 99 Corolla, and both remotes aren't working. Strangely, when I use the key to open the car door the alarm doesn't go off, but the ignition won't start and the interior lights aren't working either, leading us to believe the battery is dead. If we jump-start the battery, could that enable us to deactivate the alarm?
Answer -
Not a dumb question. I need to know what kind of remotes
you have there. If it's from Toyota, or is it an aftermarket
alarm/keyless entry or, just what.

Can you give me the FCC ID number on the back of the remote
so I can identify the maker, and maybe give
you something to go on. At this point, I don't
have enough info to make a good answer.

Please let me know the FCC ID # and a
short description of the remote.
(ie; 2 buttons, 3 or 4 buttons,
black or gray etc...)

Answer
Nope according to my notes it's a
2 button by Gargoyle.
Not made anylonger
unfortunately.

Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide
button, found under the dash area,
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area comes on solid.
(Your valet switch might be the toggle (on/off) type.
in this case, key on, flip switch in oposite direction,
key off.)

This should be valet. This overides
the starter kill relay in the alarm harness,
and returns the car back to disarmed mode.

The only thing that will work now on your system,
is the keyless entry if installed.

Just Repeat these steps to rearm your system.

That should do it.
Let me know what happens.
